Yes! This is a very common issue – having as many keywords as you can fit in your Etsy product Titles has been a favorite tip around the Etsy SEO circles. And for good reason - as long as you keep the title readable, it cannot hurt you to make your titles long.
Etsy designed its product pages to make the product titles appear almost as short product descriptions. Longer titles look better than shorter ones in the product page, and in the shop or search results pages, Etsy truncates the titles – so visually, all listings are equal (short title or long).
That being said, long titles are horrible for Shopify - not only all themes are designed for short titles - it makes it very difficult to go through a grid of listings, with each listing having a short story written under it. Moreover, it has very little value, SEO-wise.
So - what can you do? You have long titles in Etsy but want them shortened in Shopify. Etsify to the rescue! Etsify includes a smart title shortener, its engine is based on the assumption that you used separators to write your title.
What are separators? Here’s real example (an actual product listing from Etsy):
"Diamond solitaire necklace/ Diamond necklace/ Diamond bezel/ Dainty Diamond Necklace/ Birthday Gift/ Anniversary gift / Mothers Day Gift"
As you can see in the product above, the forward-slash (/) is the separator. Let’s say that, as the shop owner, I want the listing’s title to be "Diamond solitaire necklace" in Shopify.
To do so, I will, in Etsify’s settings, will mark my title separator as /. And tell Etsify I want to truncate the title after one separator. Etsify will scan the title and remove everything that comes after the first separator - which is, in this case. /.
The result would be : Diamond solitaire necklace.
Moreover, let’s say I titles to be title cased, which would make the title appear "Diamond Solitaire Necklace".
To do so - simply tick the 'Title Case: Capitalize all Words'.
